Cup kings South Willesborough earn place in Charity Trophy Quarter Finals

Ashford Sunday Charity Trophy- Second Round

Division Two side South Willesborough pulled off a cup upset beating Ashford Genclik 6-4 after extra time in a hugely entertaining clash at the Towers to go through to the last-eight of the Charity Trophy. Manager Brad Horne has now guided his side on a three-month unbeaten run stretching ten league and cup games as their latest victory setup a quarter final fixture against Market Hotel in the New Year.

South Willesborough recovered from going two goals behind in the first half to come back and draw level as goals from Emin Yalcin and Dion Orris put Genclik 2-0 ahead before the visitors netted one either side of the break through Craig Clifford and Tom Wadman to make it two goals apiece. Clifford scored his second and South Willesborough’s third when he latched onto goalkeeper Tom Moon’s huge clearance to fire the ball past Yasin Guven in the home goal, but Dion Orris levelled things up again just two minutes before full-time to make it 3-3 and send the game to extra time.
Lewis O’Leary scored twice for South Willesborough in extra time either side of Orris completing his hat trick for Genclik, before Dion Fitzgerald wrapped up the victory netting the visitors sixth to seal their eighth consecutive cup victory this season.

Division Two

Biddenden ended a four-game winless run to thrash Ashford Spartans 6-0 and move up to sixth place in the Division Two league standings. The ‘Den welcomed back goalkeeper Harry Dewdney and forward Jack Timms who are back from University for Christmas and both played their part in this victory, with Dewndey keeping an important clean sheet and Timms scoring twice, his first goals since netting 33 for the villagers last season.

Further goals from Harry Stow, Barney Maybourne, Morgan Waite and James Solly completed the scoring as Rhys Powell Jones’ side ended a torrid run of form that had previously yielded just one win in their previous eight league and cup fixtures. For Spartans they go into the Christmas break just two points behind leaders Hamstreet and missed out on the chance to go top of the table suffering their first away defeat for over three-months.
