Norman conquests Lolzors netting four in big win for Market Hotel

Premier Division

Market Hotel proved far too strong for bottom of the table Lolzors as the 22-time Premier Division champions romped home to a 14-0 win at the Towers School. The one-sided victory was Market’s first in the league this season after a slow start and a change in management, with recent signing Ryan Norman top scoring for the visitors netting four times following his transfer from Aldington last month. Bradley Baker grabbed a hat-trick for the second weekend in succession while Ryan Philpott and Steve Ward both netted twice, with Connell Baker, Jordan Tomsett and Kenny Steward completing the scoring for Ryan Smith’s side.

Bodkin Challenge Cup- Quarter Final

Division One leaders Sellindge SSC booked their place in the semi-finals of the Bodkin Cup completing an extraordinary comeback before beating Ashford Genclik 7-4 after extra-time in a hugely entertaining game at Swan Lane. Teddy Deverson netted a hat-trick adding to Salih Yalcin’s strike as Genclik led 4-1 at the start of the second half before Sellindge hit back to force extra-time despite missing two penalties in normal time. Two goals apiece from Liam Middleton and Shaune Carey started the comeback with Tony Dunham, Ross Godden and Darren Winfield all scoring once to send the Swans through to the last-four of the competition.

Division One

Aldington moved to within two points of Division One leaders Sellindge SSC as they returned from their trip to Folkestone United 3-1 winners. The visitors went 1-0 ahead early on when Matt Moon turned in from Alex Williams’ cross and they doubled their lead midway through the first half thanks to Dave Mackie’s headed effort from George Argar’s corner. Folkestone came right back into the game after their slow start and deservedly pulled a goal back just before the break when Jed Burns scored direct from a corner kick to make it 2-1, and they continued to push for an equaliser in the second period without success. Aldington dug deep with goalkeeper James Sutton and defensive pair Tom Missing and Jack Clements outstanding for the away side as the villagers weathered the United storm before sealing the victory late on thanks to Stephen Cowell’s outrageous effort from the halfway line to score his sides third.

Ashley Boyd netted a hat-trick as Horsebox Bars moved up to third in the standings thanks to their 7-1 away win at Lydd Grasshoppers. Boyd now has 15 goals this season for the Horsemen as they won their first away league game since September after two recent defeats on the road, while two goals from Tony Norris and one each for Aaron Cook and Matthew King sealed the victory. Robbie Tyas replied for Grasshoppers who drop to eighth place following their fourth successive league defeat.

Cheriton AFC are back up to fourth in the table as they beat local rivals Hythe Royal British Legion 3-1 away from home. Two goals from top scorer Ben Ashton set Chris Jones’ side on their way to a fifth league success of the season before Ryan Hall wrapped up the victory netting the visitors third goal, cancelling out Dan Arnold’s 19th strike of the campaign in reply for Hythe.

Goals from Ben Harte and James Fraser saw Charing record their third victory in their last five league fixtures to beat bottom of the table Appledore 2-1 at the Moat. The win lifted Charing up two places to sixth in the Division One standings as player of the month nominee Harte and top scorer Fraser did the damage to cancel out Richard Weller’s strike for the Smugglers who continue their search for a first league victory this season.

Division Two

Top of the table Hamstreet failed to increase their lead at the top of the Division Two league standings after they were beaten 4-3 at home to Park Farm Rangers. Adam Draper-Lewis netted a hat-trick for Rangers adding to Dan Hall’s sole strike to lift the visitors up two places to sixth in the table with their second league victory in three games. Hamstreet remain two points clear at the summit despite seeing Celebs Go Dating star Ben Stone get on the score sheet, while Darren Warburton and former Kennington striker Jake North also hit the target for Mark Rutland’s side as their run of three league victories on the bounce was ended by Rangers.

Peter Pain Memorial Division Two League Cup- Preliminary Round

Fox Sunday continued their recent good form thrashing Biddenden 7-1 to progress to the quarter finals of the Peter Pain League Cup. After an even start to the game Fox took control midway through the first half when Syrus Gordon smashed home from 30-yards with a great strike into the top corner of the goal, before top scorer Tom Wilmshurst scored two more in quick succession before the break to give Ben Rolfe’s side a 3-0 advantage at the interval. Despite the wind affecting the second half, Fox added a fourth when Junior Brown latched onto Mike Aglony’s through ball to score their fourth but Biddenden pulled a goal back with twenty minutes to play thanks to Harry’s Stow’s spot kick. Substitute Peter Povey made sure of the victory for the Fox scoring twice in the space of four minutes before Dave Gray slotted home goal number seven five minutes from time to increase Fox’s unbeaten run to four league and cup games.

Joining them in the quarter finals are Troggs after they comfortably beat Ashford Cavaliers 7-2 at Cornes Meadow. Attacking midfielder Alex Philpott claimed a hat trick for the Smarden based side to take his goal tally for the season to 12 in all competitions while former Market Hotel player Adam Phillips scored his first Troggs goals netting a brace for the hosts to increase their lead. Further goals from Sam Lopez and Rob Giles did the damage to cancel out replies from Aaron Carlton and George Mabb for Cavaliers who have won just once in the previous five games and have been knocked out in three different cup competitions in that sequence.

Division Three

Ashley Sales scored another two goals as Folkestone United Reserves increased their lead at the top of the Division Three standings to nine points with a 4-1 away win at Aldington Reserves. Sales has now scored 27 goals this term for United who go into the Christmas break as leaders with just seven games left to play this season. Jordan Burton and Stanley Dickson also found the back of the net to make sure of the three points as Aldington Reserves dropped to the foot of the table following their seventh successive league defeat.

Singleton Barn returned to league action after a seven-week break registering an important 4-0 home victory over promotion rivals Ashford United Thirds. Top scorer Bradley Freund was once again was on top form netting all four of the Barn goals as Neil Hemstead’s side moved up to fourth place, ten points behind leaders Folkestone United Reserves with six games in-hand. Goalkeeper Jamie Morton kept a clean sheet against his former team to preserve the Barn’s superior defensive record in the division this season as they look to end 2019 next weekend with a Sheber Trophy fixture away at Division Two side Lolzors Reserves.

Brad Sharpe scored his second goal of the season to earn Kingsnorth Pilgrims a rare point as they held Smeeth & Brabourne to a 1-1 draw at the Ridge. Sharpe’s goal saw Kingsnorth leapfrog above both Charing Reserves and Aldington Reserves at the foot of the table in their bid to avoid a third successive wooden spoon. Smeeth claimed a share of the points thanks to Ollie Heard’s strike and remain unbeaten in the league now for six games.
