Osborne fires Green Reserves into cup final, while Norris scores four as Frogs warm up for important Kent Cup clash

AFORD AWARDS DIVISION THREE LEAGUE CUP- SEMI FINAL

Bromley Green Reserves cruised into the final of the Aford Awards League Cup thrashing promotion rivals Folkestone United Reserves 9-1 away from home. The fixture was switched to United’s home ground in Elham following heavy rain last week that caused the waterlogging of Bromley Green’s pitch, and even though the Green surrendered home advantage they ran riot scoring nine times to set up a final clash against one of Ashford United Thirds, Kingsnorth Pilgrims or Mersham Sports Reserves in April.

Jamie Dobbin was on top form scoring four times to send them on their way and they are now just 90 minutes away from winning the teams first piece of silverware since reforming two years ago. Charlie Wallis weighed in scoring two more while further goals from Jordan Osborne, Alfie Glendinning and Tyler Montgomery sealed the victory and cancelled out a consolation goal from Ashley Sales for United.

ASHFORD SUNDAY CHARITY TROPHY- SECOND ROUND

In-form Liam Middleton was on the score sheet as promotion-chasing Division One side Sellindge SSC caused a cup upset beating Premier Division Red Heathens 4-0 to progress to the quarter finals of the Ashford Sunday Charity Trophy. Middleton has been pivotal to the Swans’ success this season out the wing scoring 13 times and grabbed the headlines during the week scoring twice for Canterbury City in their 5-0 SCEFL victory over Welling Town. Additional strikes from Tony Dunham, Josh McCue and Lewis Freeland completed the scoring as Sellindge now await the winners of the delayed second round tie between Mersham Sports and Kennington in the last-eight of the competition.

DIVISION ONE

Division One top goal scorer Dan Arnold once again found the back of the net against his former club as Folkestone United recorded back-to-back victories over Hythe Royal British Legion winning 4-1 at South Road. Arnold (pictured above) scored a hat-trick against his former teammates last week as United run out 8-2 winners in the reverse fixture and scored one this time out to take his goal tally for the season to 26 in all competitions. Robbie Westbrook, Jed Burns and Josh Baker also all found the target as United stretched their winning league run to four matches. Jason Brazier pulled a goal back for Hythe RBL who remain down in ninth in the Division One league standings.

DIVISION TWO

A superb second half performance earned AFC Guildhall all three points as they beat bottom of the table Fox Sunday 7-2 to move back up to third in the Division Two league standings. Guildhall scored five unanswered goals in the second period to clam the win and end an unwanted sequence of five league games without a victory. Steven Masters scored twice for the home side adding to individual strikes from Jon Brisley, Liam Hark, James Walton, Matt Biggs and Josh Woodward, while Fox replied with their goals coming from Tom Wilmshurst and Craig Mannering, Wilmshurst netting his 100th goal for the club in his 103rd appearance.

Top goal scorer Michael Norris scored four times to help South Willesborough to victory as they swept aside Park Farm Rangers winning 9-3 at the Homewood 3G pitch in Tenterden. Norris now has 22 goals for the season as the Frogs warmed up for their important Kent Sunday Junior Trophy semi-final against Royal Southwark next weekend with a big win that moves them up to fourth in the table and just two-points behind leaders Hamstreet with two games in hand. Norris’ goals included two headed efforts and the Frogs’ lead was extended thanks to a hat trick from Lewis O’Leary and single strikes from Tommy Wadman and Kurtis Hooper. Rangers lost for the first time in three games despite scoring through Jake Hayward-Browne, Adam Draper-Lewis and Kieran Garvey and remain second in the standings.

DIVISION THREE

Division Three leaders Ashford United Thirds extended their advantage at the top of the table to three points with a 6-1 win over Kingsnorth Pilgrims. Craig Hagley continued his excellent form in front of goal scoring a brace for United while highly rated midfielder Tom McDonald bagged his 11th goal of the campaign in the comfortable victory. United increased their lead thanks to further goals from Kris Melachrino, John Giles and Kieran Cox to condemn Kingsnorth to their eleventh league defeat of the season despite James Bowerbank netting his second goal of the season in reply.

Luke Goddard and Billy Lee both scored twice as Mersham Sports Reserves kick started their title push with an important 5-2 victory away at neighbours Smeeth & Brabourne. The fixture was only Mersham’s second league match since early November because of cup commitments and the recent wet weather, but the visitors showed no signs of a lack of match practice as they travelled back home down the A20 with all three points and move up to fourth in the table with games in hand on all three teams above them. Craig Lang added Mersham’s fifth goal to wrap up the victory to inflict a third successive defeat on Smeeth who replied through Ollie Heard and Will Stuttle.
