South Willesborough book Sheber Trophy final place

SHEBER CHALLENGE TROPHY- SEMI FINAL

With Storm Ciara blowing in only three games survived the wet and windy weather on Sunday with the Sheber Trophy semi-final clash between cup specialists Fox Sunday and in-form South Willesborough quite rightly taking centre stage. In truth the weather played havoc with the strong winds making it difficult for either side to play any decent standard of football, but it was South Willesborough who dealt with the conditions better running out 3-0 winners.

Two goals from Mike Norris and one from January’s Division Two player of the month Lewis O’Leary proved the difference as the Frog Islanders stormed into a 3-0 half-time lead. Fox more than played their part in the tie with teenage winger Kai Jones causing the visitors some problems on the left, but South Willesborough held firm to book their place in the final where they will face one of AFC Guildhall, Mersham Sports Reserves or Hamstreet.

DIVISION ONE

Ben Ashton netted a hat-trick as Cheriton AFC returned home from their trip to promotion rivals Ashford Genclik 5-3 winners. Cheriton bounced back from losing their two previous league fixtures to earn an important win to close the gap between themselves and the top-three in the Division One league standings to just two-points. Ashton’s treble was accompanied by further goals from Jack Taylor and a stunning effort from Craig Harding to seal the victory and cancel out two goals from Teddy Deverson on his return from injury and one from Yalcin Guven for Genclik who remain third.

DIVISION THREE

Pilgrims Sunday moved to within four-points of second place Ashford United Thirds beating bottom of the table Aldington Reserves 3-1 in their Division Three clash. The fixture was switched the Pilgrims’ home pitch in Great Chart due to a waterlogged pitch at Aldington and Karl Lowry’s side took full advantage of playing on familiar ground as they won for only the second time in their previous ten league and cup fixtures. Steve Warren opened the scoring with a well hit volley before Yonas Tesfay doubled Pilgrims’ lead after being put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Jack Hollamby pulled a goal back for Aldington with a quarter of an hour to play but Pilgrims made sure of the victory when Alex McGrath took advantage of a goalkeeping error to score their third.
